Helping students succeed
Denise O’Neil Green, associate vice president of institutional diversity, received two grants for the GEAR Up program partnership with Flint Community Schools.
The GEAR Up program works with students in three Flint middle schools and one high school to improve high school graduation rates of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.
GEAR Up is funded nationally by the U.S. Department of Education and locally by its project partners to facilitate student tutoring and mentoring, offer workshops on college preparation and financial aid, and assist schools and teachers to better prepare students for college studies.
Grants: "GEAR Up/Flint Community Schools Advisor Contract," Flint Community Schools, $77,037. "Institutional Services for CMU’s GEAR Up Project with Flint Schools," "Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth," $69,000.
